The Wayside Inn and the Martha Mary Chapel will always represent the quintessential historic New England wedding for me. I've photographed weddings at both locations multiple times, have know close friends who were married there and my parents were married in the chapel was back in the 70s. If you don't know the Martha Mary Chapel in Sudbury, it's actually been in quite a few movies over the years. 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past' is probably the most famous, starring Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner, and also 'The Invention of Lying' starring the British comedian Ricky Gervais.
So anytime I get to photograph a wedding in either wedding location, I'm always excited to try something a little new. Take this image of the groom and his groomsmen messing around before the ceremony is to begin. We walked around the Chapel property looking for a few pre-ceremony spots and noticed the tiny historic schoolhouse was still open that day. Of course we had to take advantage of such a unique opportunity. I simply had the guys spread out a bit around the single room classroom and well, a bit of craziness ensued as it can when a bunch of best friends are together. I always like to see where the action will go and kept shooting as the groom, in the center with the stick, decided it was his job to chastise anyone not listening. Too funny. The light streaming in behind everyone and the expressions make this one of my favorite wedding groomsmen photos. You also might recognize the groom and his brother from the A&E show 'Southie Rules'.
